What OS do servers run?
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Additional distros will be added based on demand.
Can I install any software?
Yes. Root access. Install anything from Ubuntu's repositories or compile from source.
How is this different from raw DigitalOcean or Azure?
Simplewala adds a management portal, one-click installs, automated security, and monitoring on top of the provider’s VMs — and asks what the server is for before asking which machine, so the sizing decision is made with the workload in view. If you are comfortable doing all of that yourself, buying direct is cheaper and we say so on the pricing page.
Which providers and regions can I choose?
DigitalOcean and Microsoft Azure. The region list is synced from each provider’s API and filtered to what can actually host a VM, and our price does not change between them.
Can I resize my server?
Yes. Upgrade or downgrade from the portal at any time.
